Ingredients:

• 1 kg – lamb or Mutton with bones preferably from the breast portion
• 1 handful – masoor dal (red gram dal)
• 2 cups – Coconut Milk
• 2 tbsp – oil
• 3 – Green chillies
• 2 tsp – Red Chilli powder
• 1 tsp – coriander powder
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1 tsp – cumin powder
• 1 tbsp – Ginger Garlic paste
• 1 tbsp – Lime juice
• Salt to taste
• 8 to 10 – Curry leaves
• 2 – medium size onions, sliced
• 2 tbsp – chopped Mint for garnishing

Method:

  1. Cook the meat and dal with sufficient water till tender.
  2. Whisk till the dal is smooth.
  3. Heat oil in a big pan and fry the curry leaves, green chillies and onions till slightly brown.
  4. Add the ginger garlic paste and saute for a few minutes.
  5. Now add the chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and turmeric and fry for a few minutes till the oil separates from the mixture.
  6. Mix in the cooked mutton and dal and mix well.
  7. Slowly add the coconut milk and salt to taste.
  8. Add 2 more cups of water and simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  9. Remove from heat and add the lime juice.
  10. Garnish with mint leaves.
  11. Serve as a soup or with bread or rice.
