Ingredients:

• 1 kg – rui (a variety of fish), cut into small pieces
• 250 gms – green peas, shelled and ground to a fine paste with a little water
• 1 tbsp – Turmeric paste
• 1 tsp – chilli paste
• 2 Cloves Garlic ground to a paste
• 1-inch piece ginger, ground to a paste
• 1 onion, ground to a paste
• 4 tbsp – Dahi (yoghurt)
• 3-4 green chillies, slit

Method:

  1. Place fish in dekchi or container in which you intend steaming it.
  2. Add the other ingredients including oil and mix thoroughly.
  3. Add salt and 1.5 tsp. sugar or to taste
  4. Cover container or dekchi with a tight-fitting lid or a piece of foil. Place in a large dekchi or pan.
  5. Steam for half an hour or till fish is cooked.
  6. Carefully remove small dekchi from the larger pan. Remove cover and pour fish into serving bowl.
  7. It is best served fresh and hot.
  8. A good accompaniment with rice.
