Ingredients:

• 10 slices – bread
• 2 cups – Milk
• 15 – Pistachios
• Ghee for shallow frying
• For the syrup:
• 15 strands – Saffron
• 7 – green cardamoms, peeled and powdered
• 2.5 cups – water

Method:

  1. Boil the pistachios in one cup water for 5 minutes.
  2. Cool, peel and finely slice them. Keep aside.
  3. Pour the milk in a flat dish or a thali.
  4. Soak one slice of bread at a time.
  5. Lightly heat 3 tbsp ghee in a non-stick kadai. Fry each bread (soaked in milk) on a medium flame till golden on both sides, flipping the sides of the bread gently.
  6. Repeat with the remaining slices of bread.
  7. For the syrup:
  8. Boil the water with the sugar.
  9. After 5 minutes, add the saffron and cardamom powder.
  10. Boil for another 20 minutes till you get one thread consistency of the syrup.
  11. Soak each fried slice of bread in the hot syrup for few minutes.
  12. Garnish with pistachios and serve.
