Ingredients:
• 10 slices – bread
• 2 cups – Milk
• 15 – Pistachios
• Ghee for shallow frying
• For the syrup:
• 15 strands – Saffron
• 7 – green cardamoms, peeled and powdered
• 2.5 cups – water
Method:
- Boil the pistachios in one cup water for 5 minutes.
- Cool, peel and finely slice them. Keep aside.
- Pour the milk in a flat dish or a thali.
- Soak one slice of bread at a time.
- Lightly heat 3 tbsp ghee in a non-stick kadai. Fry each bread (soaked in milk) on a medium flame till golden on both sides, flipping the sides of the bread gently.
- Repeat with the remaining slices of bread.
- For the syrup:
- Boil the water with the sugar.
- After 5 minutes, add the saffron and cardamom powder.
- Boil for another 20 minutes till you get one thread consistency of the syrup.
- Soak each fried slice of bread in the hot syrup for few minutes.
- Garnish with pistachios and serve.
