Ingredients:

• 2 cups – Channa dal
• 12 Green chillies
• 1 Coconut – grated
• 1 inch Ginger
• 1 small bunch coriander, finely chopped
• 1 tsp Haldi
• 1 pinch Hing
• salt to taste

Method:

  1. Soak the channa dal for 1.5 hours, drain all the water and grind coarsely into a dry paste.
  2. Grind the rest of the ingredients except coriander into a dry paste.
  3. Mix it well with the above dal paste and coriander.
  4. Shape into elongated balls by holding a palm-full of the dal paste and rolling in the palm (do not use both palms).
  5. Place in idli trays and steam for 10 minutes.
  6. It tastes yummy with white butter, kadi, coconut chutney, sauces, ketchups or just by itself.
