Ingredients:

• Chana dal – 500 gms
• chopped Green chilli – 3
• chopped Onion – 1, medium size
• chopped Ginger and Garlic – 1 tsp
• Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
• Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
• Red Chilli powder – 1 tsp (or as per your taste)
• Sugar – a pinch
• salt – to taste
• oil – 2 tbsp

Method:

  1. Take channa dal and soak it for at least 2 hours. Then wash the dal and put it in a mixer, put little bit of water for making a smooth paste.
  2. In low flame, put 2 teaspoon of oil in a kadai. Once it’s hot, add cumin seeds, when splutters, add chopped onion, green chillies, ginger & garlic, cook it for few seconds.
  3. Add dal paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt & sugar, stir it until the paste doesn’t stick the kadai.
  4. Take out the dal paste on a flat tray and give a little press on it by your hand to make the upper level plain. Keep it in freeze and let it cool.
  5. After 15-20 minutes take out the tray. The dal paste becomes little hard so that it will be easy to cut them into pieces.
  6. Now take a deep fry pan, put enough oil for deep fry and keep it on a medium flame. Fry the dhonka pieces carefully till golden brown.
  7. Serve hot with sauce/ chutney.
