
Ingredients:
• 1 cup tur dal
• 2 cups of water
• 1 onion, chopped
• 2 tsp chilli powder
• 1 large tomato, chopped
• 1 tsp cumin powder
• 1 tsp pepper powder
• 1 tbsp Garlic paste
• 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
• 1 tsp coriander powder
• 1/2 cup Tamarind juice extracted from a small ball of Tamarind or 2 tsp Tamarind paste
• salt to taste
Method:
- Cook tur dal with 2 cups of water.
- Add chilli powder, tomato, cumin powder, pepper powder, garlic paste, turmeric powder, coriander powder, tamarind juice, salt and some more water to the cooked dal and boil.
- Cook on low heat for few minutes.
- Heat 2 tsp oil in another vessel, add the mustard seeds.
- When they begin to splutter add the sliced onion, curry leaves, broken red chillies and saute for a few minutes.
- Pour the mulligatawny or dal pepper water into the seasoning and mix well.
- Serve with rice.
