Ingredients:

• Channa dal – 1 cup
• Water – 2 cups
• Jaggery – 1 cup
• Cardamom powder – 1/4 tsp
• Maida – 1.5 cup

Method:

  1. Make a dough with the maida, cover with a wet muslin cloth and set aside until dal cooks.
  2. Pressure cook dal with 2 cups of water up to 3 whistles.
  3. Spoon dal from cooker and grind to a fine paste with jaggery to make poornam.
  4. Add elaichi and stir.
  5. Shape poornam into small balls.
  6. Shape maida into balls that are half the size of poornam balls.
  7. Flatten maida ball in your palm, place poornam ball in the centre and close your fist around the flatten maida to seal and flatten again. Repeat with the rest of the maida and poornam dough.
  8. Deep Fried them.
  9. Serve warm.
