Ingredients:

• 1 cup – Mint leaves, chopped.
• 2 – green chillies, slit.
• 1/2 tsp – chilli powder.
• 1 tsp – coriander powder.
• 1/2 tsp – cumin powder.
• 1/2 cup – raw mango, grated.
• 1/2 cup – cooked tovar dal, mashed.
• 1/2 tsp – salt.
• 2 tsp – Jaggery powder.
• 2 tsp – oil or ghee.
• 1 tsp – mustard.
• 2 small pieces – cinnamon.
• 2 – cloves.
• a few curry leaves.

Method:

  1. Combine mint leaves with green chillies, all the powders and green mango.
  2. Add 4-5 cups of water.
  3. Boil and simmer for 5 mins.
  4. Stir in the dal. Add salt and jaggery.
  5. Simmer for 2 more mins and remove from heat.
  6. Heat oil or ghee in a small fry pan.
  7. Add mustard. When it splutters, add cinnamon, cloves and curry leaves.
  8. Fry for a few seconds and add to the saaru.
  9. Serve hot.
