Vrat ke chawal is a very famous fasting food from the Gujarat region. This dish can be relished as a quick whole-meal. Ingredients
– 1 cup samvat rice
– 2 medium chopped potatoes
– Handful peas
– 5 cloves
– 5 peppercorns
– 2 cinnamon sticks
– 2 chopped green chilies
– 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
– 1 tablespoon cumin powder
– 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
– 1 tablespoon ghee
– 1 bay leaf
– 1 teaspoon sugar
– Rock salt to taste
– Few coriander leaves, for garnishing
– Few mint leaves, for garnishing
How To Cook?
1. Wash the samvat rice and set side.
2. In a microwave proof bowl, melt ghee for about 2 minutes on full microwave power.
3. In melted and heated ghee, add bay leaf, cumin seeds, cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon sticks and green chillies. Mix well and microwave them for another 2 minutes.
4. Add dices potatoes along with turmeric powder and cumin powder. Mix with the spices and again microwave on highest power for about 4 minutes.
5. Add washed samvat rice and stir well to mix with spices and potatoes then add 2 cups of water, sugar and salt to it.
6. Cover the bowl and cook in the microwave on 60 percent power for about 25 minutes.
7. When the vrat ka chawal is ready garnish it with coriander leaves and mint leaves.
