Ingredients:

• Shredded Coconut -1/2 Coconut
• chilli powder -2 tsp
• Coriander powder -2 tsp
• Coriander seeds -1 tsp
• Asafoetida -3/4 tsp
• Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
• Tamarind Paste -1 tbsp
• Toor Dal -1 cup
• Vegetables (small onions, tomato, Drumstick or okra) – 2 cups
• Mustard -1 tsp
• Coriander leaves and Curry leaves for garnishing

Method:

  1. Wash and cook the dal until soft.
  2. Heat the pan and pour 1 tsp oil.
  3. Add asafoetida, chilli powder and coriander powder and the seeds and fry them well.
  4. Now add coconut and fry till the mixture is dark red in colour.
  5. Wash the vegetables and boil them with turmeric powder.
  6. When the vegetables are almost done add tamarind paste and allow it to boil for sometime (keep the stove in sim).
  7. Now grind the coconut mixture and add mashed dal to it.
  8. Add the mixture to the vegetables and let it boil for some time.
  9. Add desired salt.
  10. When the sambar is done, season oil with mustard and curry leaves, and add to it.
  11. Finally add finely chopped coriander leaves.
