Ingredients:

• Green gram – 1/2 cup
• Tender Banana stem – 1/2 kg
• Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
• Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
• Green chillies – 4, chopped
• Grated Coconut – 1/2 cup
• Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp, chopped
• Lime juice – 2 tbsp
• Sugar – 1 tsp
• Oil – 1 tbsp
• Salt to taste.

Method:

  1. Soak green gram in water for 2-3 hours.
  2. Cut banana stem into thin slices.
  3. Chop the slices into tiny pieces.
  4. Drain the green gram from water and add fresh water just to cover them.
  5. Place in a thick bottomed pan and simmer gently.
  6. When the gram is half cooked, add banana stem and turmeric powder and after 10 mins add salt and sugar.
  7. Simmer for few more minutes.
  8. Heat oil in a kadai.
  9. Add cumin seeds.
  10. When they splutter, add green chillies.
  11. After few seconds, add the gram and vegetable mixture.
  12. Add grated coconut.
  13. Stir well and remove from fire.
  14. Serve sprinkled with coriander leaves and lime juice.
