Ingredients:

• 250 g – boiled and peeled Potatoes
• 1 – small onion, minced
• 1/4 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 1 tsp – Urad Dal
• 2 – green chillies, minced
• handful of Coriander leaves
• a few curry leaves, sliced
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• a pinch of Asafoetida
• 1.5 cups – gram flour
• salt and chilli powder to taste

Method:

  1. Heat 1 tbsp. of oil and put in mustard seeds and dal. When the dal turns red, put in chillies, onion and curry leaves and cook till soft.
  2. Add potatoes, salt, turmeric and coriander leaves.
  3. Mix well and remove from fire. Cool and form into round balls.
  4. Mix together gram flour, asafoetida, salt and chilli powder.
  5. Put in enough water to form a thick batter.
  6. Dip the balls one by one into the batter and deep fry to a golden brown colour.
  7. Drain and serve with chutney of your choice.
