Ingredients:

• Moong dal- 100 g, fried
• Red Chillies – 5
• Salt to taste
• Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp
• Tamarind – 1 small piece
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tbsp
• Curry leaves- 2 -3 sprigs
• Dhania seeds – 1/2 tbsp
• Oil – 2 tbsp
• Garlic – 2 Cloves
• Onion – 1 small sized.

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a pan and saute the mustard seeds, dhania, red chillies, asafoetida, then add salt and the curry leaves.
  2. Soak tamarind in 1/4 cup hot water.
  3. Now grind the fried mixture in a mixie. Grind until coarse.
  4. Now add the fried moong dal, garlic, tamarind and grind again adding a little water.
  5. The moong dal should also be coarsely ground.
  6. Now chop the onion into small pieces.
  7. Add to the chutney and mix thoroughly. The onion should remain a little coarse.
