Ingredients:

• Rice – 1/2 kg
• Skinless black gram dal – 1 tbsp
• Bengal Gram dal – 1 tbsp
• Dry Red Chillies – 5
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tbsp
• Tamarind – 1 tbsp
• Turmeric – 1 tbsp
• Curry leaves – 1 tbsp
• Oil for frying
• safoetida – A pinch
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. First, cook the rice with turmeric, salt and one tbsp oil.
  2. Soak the tamarind for 1/2 an hour and grind it into a paste.
  3. Take a pan and heat the oil.
  4. To the oil, add dry red chillies, mustard seeds, Bengal gram dal, black gram dal, turmeric and asafoetida.
  5. When the mustard seeds crackle, add the tamarind paste to this mix.
  6. Fry it for 2 minutes.
  7. When it turns dry, switch off the flame and add it to the rice.
  8. Stir well and serve it hot.
