
Ingredients:
• Toor Dal (boiled with 1 cup of water) – 1/2 cup
• Fresh Lime – 1 (medium size)
• Water – 1 cup
• Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
• Coriander seeds – 1 tsp (lightly toasted)
• Jeera seeds – 1 tsp (lightly toasted)
• Black pepper – 1/2 tsp (lightly toasted)
• Garlic Cloves – 2-3 (slightly mashed)
• Green chillies – 2-3 (slit)
• Curry leaves – 8-9 (with stem)
• Coriander stems – 3-4
• Oil – 2 tsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
• Asafoetida – a pinch
• Salt as per taste
Method:
- Take a saucepan and add boiled toor dal with water, 1 cup water and turmeric powder.
- Make a powder of all toasted seeds (jeera, coriander, pepper) and add half of the powder to the toor dal mixture.
- Add garlic, coriander stems and curry leaves.
- Let this mixture boil on medium flame.
- It should not be overboiled.
- Once it boils, remove it, add the remaining powder, juice of lime and salt and stir well.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, green chillies and asafetida.
- Add this tadka or tempering to the lime rasam.
- Check the salt.
- Serve this lime rasam hot with steaming rice.
