Ingredients:

• 1 cup – Channa dal
• 1 cup – thinly sliced Onions
• 1 tbsp – finely chopped Fenugreek leaves or dill leaves
• 1 piece – Cinnamon stick
• 2-3 – Cardamoms
• 2 – Cloves
• 1 – Bay Leaf
• 1 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp – pepper powder
• 1 tsp – Lemon juice
• 1/2 tsp – Sugar
• 2 tbsp – Ghee
• salt – to taste

Method:

  1. Clean and soak dal for 15 mins. Boil with turmeric powder and salt with 5 cups water till soft and drain the water.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan and add cinnamon, cardamom, clove, cumin seeds.
  3. Add onions and fry till light brown.
  4. Add dal, sugar, pepper powder, lemon juice, bay leaves and fenugreek leaves.
  5. Stir gently. Do not mash up dal too much.
  6. Serve hot with paratha, naan, rice etc.
