Ingredients:

• Raw Ginger – 2 to 3 inches
• Channa dal – 3 tsp
• Red Chilli – 2 to 3
• Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
• Mint – a few
• Coriander leaves – a few
• Tamarind paste – 3 tsp
• Urad dal, mustard, Hing – for seasoning
• Oil – 4 to 5 tsp
• Salt to taste
• Water – 2 cups

Method:

  1. Put 1 tsp of oil in a pan and fry the channa dal till it is golden brown.
  2. Cut the ginger into small pieces and add it to the pan along with the channa dal.
  3. Also, add red chilli, tamarind or tamarind paste, all the curry leaves, salt and hing.
  4. Fry the above for a minute and let it cool.
  5. When it is cool, grind it in a mixie by adding some water.
  6. Heat the remaining oil in a pan and add mustard.
  7. When it splutters, add urad dal, a small piece of red chilli and two curry leaves.
  8. Now, add the ground mixture with the remaining cup of water.
  9. Stir it now and then.
  10. When it starts to boil, remove from the stove.
  11. It is ready to serve.
  12. This chutney is good with idli and dosa.
