Ingredients:

• 1 – ash gourd, medium size
• 1/2 cup – Bengal Gram dal
• 1/4 cup – Coconut gratings
• 2 – Green chillies
• 1 tsp – Jeera
• 1 tsp – Rice
• Turmeric powder – a pinch
• 1 tsp – salt or as per taste
• For seasoning:
• 1 tsp – oil
• 1/2 tsp – mustard
• 2 – small Onions
• Curry leaves – a few

Method:

  1. Remove skin, seeds and white portion from the ash gourd.
  2. Cut it into small cubes.
  3. Cook the Bengal gram dal till soft.
  4. Grind coconut, green chillies, jeera and rice to a fine paste.
  5. Put the ash gourd pieces in a vessel, add turmeric powder and salt and add just enough water to cover the vegetable.
  6. Cook on medium flame till the vegetable is soft.
  7. Add cooked Bengal gram dal and mix well.
  8. Then add the ground coconut paste and stir well.
  9. Allow to boil for 3 to 5 minutes.
  10. Season it with mustard, small onion (chopped finely) and curry leaves.
