Ingredients:

• 1 cup – whole green gram
• 1.5 cups – Basmati Rice
• 4 – onions, chopped fine
• 2 tbsp – Butter
• 2 tbsp – oil
• 1 tsp – Ginger Garlic paste
• 1 tsp – Garam Masala
• 1 tsp – cumin powder
• 1 -2 tsp – Red Chilli flakes
• 1 tbsp – Coriander leaves
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Cook the lentils and rice (in three cups of water) separately till cooked, but not mushy.
  2. Heat oil and butter, add the onions and fry them till they are brown. Stir frequently to avoid burning.
  3. Once they are brown, drain them in a napkin and keep aside.
  4. In the left over oil in the pan, add ginger garlic paste and cook for a minute.
  5. Add cumin powder, garam masala, salt followed by half of the fried onions, lentils, chilli flakes and rice.
  6. Gently mix everything together and turn off the heat.
  7. Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle the rest of the fried onions and chopped coriander leaves on top.
  8. Serve with plain yogurt or raita.
