Ingredients:

• 1 cup moong dal, soaked for 1 hour
• For the seasoning:
• Oil – 1 tbsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tbsp
• Cumin seeds – 1/2 tbsp
• Red Chillies – 7 to 8
• Asafoetida – 1/2 tsp
• Tamarind – 2 inches
• A few Coriander leaves
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Allow it to crackle.
  2. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida and red chillies. Let it cool.
  3. Put the seasoning in the mixer with the soaked moong dal, tamarind, coriander leaves and salt.
  4. Grind it to a smooth paste.
  5. Serve with chapattis or rice.
